Join us as we celebrate 60 years of discovery at the Madison-Macdonald Observatory (MMO)! To mark this special occasion, we’ll be opening up the Engagement Spaces and filling the Atrium of the Natural and Environmental Sciences Building (NESB) with a collection of hands-on science experiments—including the always-popular large gravity well.
The Observatory first opened its dome to the night sky on October 27, 1965, when its new 16-inch telescope caught its first glimpse of Saturn. Named in honor of longtime CSU educators M. Leslie “Les” Madison and Stuart Lincoln Macdonald, the observatory has been a cornerstone of astronomy education and outreach for generations of students and community members.
This free, public event is a chance to explore science in an interactive, welcoming way and to celebrate the history and future of astronomy at CSU. Whether you’re a longtime science enthusiast or just curious to see what’s inside the Observatory, there’s something for everyone.
