A Taste of LSOP Shares Science With Over 4,000 PSD Students This Fall

 In Little Shop News

The last year has been challenging for many folks including the Little Shop of Physics. A Taste of LSOP was conceived in fall of 2021 based on the idea that we can do exciting hands-on science engagement with Poudre School District (PSD) K-12 students in a responsible and safe way during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This program is a smaller-scale version of our classic Traveling Science Experience. We set up around 50 science experiments in a single area at PSD school—either outdoors or in a large room such as a gym—and see one class at a time for up to half a day. Students only interact with our masked crew and other students from their class, and the experiments are spaced to discourage crowding.

Because of the simple setup and relative proximity of PSD schools, we have been able to visit up to four schools a week. This fall we visited 17 (out of 33) PSD elementary schools and 5 (out of 12) PSD middle schools, and worked with over 4,000 students total!

If you work at a PSD school and are interested in having A Taste of LSOP come for a school visit, please get in touch with your District Science Coordinator or email us at littleshopofphysics@gmail.com. Due to the pandemic, it is not clear whether we will be able to book non-PSD schools for Fall 2022, but we hope to! Please stay tuned.
