LSOP in Action: OLC Workshop 2025
In July 2025, the Little Shop of Physics team returned to Oglala Lakota College in Kyle, South Dakota, to lead a two-day professional development workshop for local educators. This workshop continued a long-standing partnership between LSOP and the Oglala Lakota community that began in 2008, built around a shared commitment to engaging, hands-on science education.
Fifteen teachers participated in the workshop, exploring classroom-ready activities focused on energy, waves, light, and color. Throughout the week, educators worked directly with hands-on demonstrations and experiments that they can bring back to their own classrooms, while also discussing effective teaching strategies and approaches for encouraging curiosity and scientific thinking among students.
By combining practical classroom resources with research-informed pedagogy, the workshop provided teachers with new tools to engage their students and build confidence in teaching physics through exploration and discovery.
