A Week of Collaboration in Norway

 In Little Shop News

Tusen takk—“a thousand thanks” in Norwegian—to our friends at Jærmuseet Science Circus in Nærbø, Norway! I had the joy of spending a week with their incredible team last September, and it was a truly special experience. From the moment I arrived, they welcomed me warmly into their work, their homes, and their lives. I’m so grateful for the chance to share science, to play, to laugh, and to learn alongside such wonderful colleagues and friends.

Throughout the week, we worked together to develop engaging lessons focused on light and polarization, blending hands-on exploration with creative approaches to teaching. A personal highlight was Fredrik’s Faraday Effect demonstration—honestly worth the trip across the ocean all by itself!

The trip wrapped up with an all-day workshop for 30 teachers from across Norway, where we explored these new lessons together. Teachers built torsion waves out of marshmallows and candy, and even used the mineral Iceland spar for navigation—a truly Norwegian experience! Their enthusiasm was contagious, and seeing the Science Circus program in action gave me so many new ideas to bring back to Little Shop.

I’m deeply appreciative of the warm invitation and the generous hospitality. And the collaboration continues: we’re excited to welcome Magne from Science Circus to visit LSOP during our Open House in March 2026! Sharing ideas and learning from one another makes both of our programs stronger, and I’m already looking forward to the next time our paths cross.
